Together we can build gardens and use food waste's worth to green the earth.

At Verdi, our vision is to create self-sustaining gardens that include both community growing spaces and traditional allotments. All practices will utilize regenerative growing practices beyond organic requirements to build soil and produce safe chemical-free food for people.
We plan to utilize land dedicated to garden space through community partners. In an effort to enhance the viability and value of green jobs, a lead gardener would be paid through the rents paid for individual allotments. The overall design will use permaculture principles to create low-input, beautiful growing spaces.
Our founders are Certified Permaculture Designers with almost 40 years of organic gardening experience combined.
Our latest project is converting a 1/2 acre suburban lot to a productive edible landscape. Another project has provided much of the produce, goat milk and eggs for a family of five for the past 10 years. We're also involved personally in church and school garden projects.
Food waste makes up over 1/5 of solid waste going to landfills. In the landfill, food waste is not exposed to air, and is therefore broken down in a way that produces methane, a greenhouse gas that may be contributing to climate change.

Verdi is working to establish food waste collection hubs at local schools, churches, recreation centers and other community sites. Verdi will in turn provide finished compost and support to establish gardens at interested sites.

It handled all my food waste and fed my garden soil. The more I learned, the more I realized food waste shouldn't be a problem. It's a resource we're carelessly sending to the landfill. There are lots of strategies to use food waste's worth to green the earth. Let's explore them together!

Verdi's goal is to make food waste recycling standard practice in St. Louis County. We aim to connect people in their local community to the knowledge, materials and space needed to transform food waste into nutrient rich compost to improve local soils. In turn, the improved local soil can provide the community with quality produce and people the opportunity to connect around gardening and composting.
Verdi will also create a network of trained compost site managers.
Currently, contributions will allow Verdi to start our first Community Garden and Food Waste Collection Site!
